Moving to Dubai from Istanbul: 2026 Relocation Guide
Türkçe konuşuyoruzBy SETTRA · Checked November 2026

Istanbul to Dubai is a short flight and an increasingly common move for Turkish families and entrepreneurs. What takes time is not the journey but the order of things — visa, Emirates ID, bank, lease, schools. This guide sets out that order, what to prepare before you leave Istanbul, and where Turkish families tend to settle.
1. Before you fly
Turkish citizens usually need a visit visa to enter the UAE; some travellers holding valid US, UK or EU residence or visas may qualify for a visa on arrival. A visit visa lets you view homes and schools, but not work, sign most long-term contracts in your own name or open every type of bank account — for that you need residence.
Istanbul–Dubai is about four and a half hours, with many daily direct flights from both Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen. Book flexible fares if your residence or lease dates are not yet fixed.
- Passports valid for at least six months, for every family member.
- University diplomas, apostilled in Türkiye and ideally translated — needed for some employment visas and professional licences.
- Marriage certificate and children's birth certificates (international format), apostilled — required to sponsor family residence visas.
- School reports for the last two years and vaccination records for children.
- Bank statements and proof of income (salary letters, tax documents, company records) for banks and landlords.
- Driving licence; Turkish licences can often be converted, but check the current rules first.
Apostilles are much easier to obtain in Türkiye before you leave than from Dubai afterwards.
2. Residence options
Most families from Istanbul use one of four routes. Which one fits depends on how you earn, whether you buy property and who you need to sponsor.
- Employment visa — sponsored by a UAE employer; the simplest route if you already have a job offer.
- Free zone company visa — you set up a company in a free zone and receive residence as its owner or manager; common for entrepreneurs and consultants.
- Investor visa — linked to a shareholding in a UAE company or a qualifying investment.
- Golden Visa — a long-term residence, including a property route for owners of real estate worth AED 2 million or more.

3. Banking
Turkish citizens can open UAE bank accounts with standard checks. Banks usually ask for your passport, residence visa or Emirates ID application, proof of income or a salary certificate, recent bank statements and a UAE address (usually a tenancy contract). Approval often takes one to three weeks.
To move savings from Türkiye, use regular bank transfers from an account in your own name and keep the paperwork that shows where the money came from — UAE banks will ask. Compare exchange rates and transfer fees, and move large sums in planned steps rather than all at once.
For tax residence, investments or anything beyond a standard account, speak to a licensed adviser.
4. Where Turkish families live
There is no single Turkish district, but these areas are popular with families from Istanbul:
- Dubai Hills
- Green, villas and townhouses, close to schools and a large mall — a family favourite.
- Arabian Ranches
- Established villa community with gardens, golf and a quiet, suburban pace.
- JVC
- More affordable, with townhouses and newer buildings; popular with young families.
- Business Bay
- Modern towers by the canal, close to offices — suits professionals and couples.
- Downtown
- Next to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall; central, lively, apartment living.
5. Schools
Dubai offers a wide choice of international schools following British (GCSE/A-level), IB and American curricula, among others. Many Turkish families choose one of these and keep Turkish through weekend or after-school lessons.
Private schools are regulated by the KHDA. In brief: shortlist schools by curriculum, area and KHDA rating; apply directly to each school; your child may sit an assessment; the school confirms a place; you then submit the documents (passport, residence visa, previous school reports, transfer certificate where required). Good schools fill early, so start before you move.
6. The first 30 days
In roughly this order:
- UAE SIM or eSIM for every adult.
- Residence visa application and medical test.
- Emirates ID biometrics.
- Bank account — start as soon as you have the visa or ID application.
- Tenancy contract and Ejari registration; DEWA and internet connected.
- Car rental, purchase or driving licence conversion.
- School applications, assessments and enrolment documents.

Questions
Do Turkish citizens need a visa to enter Dubai?

Which residence route is best for a family from Istanbul?
It depends on how you earn and whether you buy property: employment, free zone company, investor or Golden Visa. We look at your situation and confirm current requirements through licensed partners.
How do I move my savings from Türkiye to Dubai?
Through regular bank transfers from an account in your name, keeping documents that show the source of funds. Compare rates and fees, and plan large transfers in steps.
Are there good schools for Turkish children in Dubai?
Yes — many international schools with British, IB and American curricula. Admission goes school by school under KHDA rules; start applications before you move.
How long does it take to settle in?
Most families have visa, Emirates ID, bank, home and school in place within four to eight weeks, depending on the visa route.
